Tell us about YOU!
I’ve been involved with The Growing Stage since the beginning and has worn many hats as teaching artist, editor, Summer Camp director, accompanist, and musical director. In her other life, she taught middle and high school English for 38 years, and is the choir director and organist for her church. She loves being a teacher and instilling a love of reading, writing, and theater in young people. Being a part of The Growing Stage is a huge source of pride.
Tell us about your role in GOOSEBUMPS: Phantom of the Auditorium.
As musical director of Goosebumps, it’s been my job to teach the music to the cast and lead them through the process of learning the notes, harmonies, and inflections. This cast is very talented, and it has been so much fun to work through the music with them as they developed their character voices in the songs. The score for this show is full of catchy tunes and memorable lyrics. Each song moves the story along with humor and revelations about the characters. I love hearing the performers sing! They are terrific!
What is your favorite Goosebumps book?
I don’t have a favorite Goosebumps book, but as a middle school English teacher, I can attest to the popularity of R.L. Stine with my students over the years!
Why should audiences see Goosebumps?
This show really is a “something for everyone” kind of show. There’s the mystery, of course, but also so much humor. The audience will relate to the characters and leave the theater humming those tunes.
What do you love about working at The Growing Stage?
There are many reasons I love working at GST, but the main reason is the people. Respect for the performers and audiences is paramount to the company, and it makes the work here a true pleasure. Over the years I have been privileged to work with family here, and also with colleagues and friends who have become like family to me. I have grown in every role I have been afforded, learning from the professionals as well as from the children. What a joy to be a small part of the magic that happens here with every show.
GOOSEBUMPS is…
Goosebumps is that exciting feeling of anticipation – a little fear and a lot of fun. The show is filled with that same combination of emotions that is so entertaining.
