Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical
Audition Date: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 7:00PM for Young Performers (Ages 10 – 17), Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 7:00PM for Adult Performers (18+).
Auditions will be held in-person at The Historic Palace Theatre: 7 Ledgewood Ave. Netcong, NJ.
Please Note: The Growing Stage Theatre is located in northwestern New Jersey. There is no regular mass transportation. We do not provide housing. Reliable transportation is needed.

List of Adult Roles
- Miss Honey: Matilda’s kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull.
- Mr. Wormwood: Matilda’s uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman.
- Mrs. Wormwood: Matilda’s self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer.
- Rudolpho: Mrs. Wormwood’s ballroom dance partner.
- Mrs. Phelps: The Librarian who encourages Matilda’s love of reading.
The role of Miss Agatha Trunchbull has been pre-cast.
All roles are Non-Union paid positions under our TGS Professional and Emerging Artist contracts for adult artists. We will have three Professional contracts and one Emerging Artist contract available for this production.
Professional Artist Contract: $17.00/hr for rehearsal – $95.00 per performance
Emerging Artist Contract: $45.00 per performance
Preparation:
Open call. Auditioners are asked to prepare sixteen measures of a musical theatre song with printed sheet music for the accompanist. There will be a brief dance routine taught by the company choreographer and cold readings from the script.
Video Submissions:
In-person auditions are preferred. Video submissions will be accepted up until Monday, August 31 with the understanding that you may be invited to attend the preferable in-person audition on Thursday, September 3. Please send all video submissions to boxoffice@growingstage.com
Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsal schedules are generally two or three evenings during the week and a weekend afternoon. All cast members are expected for all performances, with no exception since the company does not cast understudies.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace! Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs Matilda is a delightful story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
