We’re thrilled to welcome Peter Gianguzzi as our new Production & Facilities Manager!
While Peter may be new to The Growing Stage, he brings with him over five years of experience in technical theater, audio engineering, and sound design. As an accomplished Production Manager, his skills and passion for the arts will help strengthen our work both on stage and behind the scenes.
In the interview below, Peter shares more about his professional background and what excites him most about joining TGS for this next chapter.
Hi Pete! Welcome to TGS! Can you tell us a little about your background and what experiences you bring to this new role?
I’ve been passionate about the performing arts and production since grammar school and have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of shows and artists, from Off-Broadway productions to live music across multiple genres. Highlights of my experience include working on productions like STOMP, performances by Bette Midler and James Taylor, and international events such as the Dynamo music festival in the Netherlands.
I’m a creative thinker and strong problem-solver who enjoys working in collaborative environment, and I’m excited to bring my experience and energy to the dynamic world of Theater for Young Audiences.
What drew you to The Growing Stage and this opportunity?
The theatre’s mission of performing arts through education immediately resonated with me, but it was the passion and enthusiasm of executive director Steve Fredericks that really drew me in. During my first walk-through of the facility, I was struck not only by the warmth of the staff but creative energy buzzing around the building.
So I think it was that combination of people, place and purpose that really sold me on coming to work at The Growing Stage.
How has theatre or the arts played a role in your life so far?
Live theatre is literally a dream factory where what could be is only limited by your imagination. My involvement on the technical side of things has been a great outlet for self-expression and creativity, helping me connect with the arts community in a meaningful way.
What are you most excited to learn or experience as you begin this new chapter with TGS?
I’m really looking forward to gaining a better understanding of how shows are produced in an environment dedicated primarily to children’s theatre. I’m also pretty excited to be part of the collaborative process here at The Growing Stage Theatre and hope make a positive impact in Theater for Young Audiences.
What do you hope to contribute to the TGS community?
I hope to bring fresh energy, creativity, and a can-do spirit to the production process, keeping the equipment running smoothly in the performance spaces and throughout the facility, while supporting my colleagues and coworkers as they work towards bringing engaging live entertainment to children and families in our community.
Outside of work, what are some of your interests or hobbies?
I enjoy traveling to historic places, collecting antiques, spending time in museums, and tinkering with machines. I’m passionate about architecture and design, often looking to the past for both personal and professional inspiration.
Do you have a favorite children’s book, play, or musical that resonates with you?
Where the Wild Things Are is a personal favorite of mine. Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book tells the story of a mischievous boy in a wolf suit who wreaks havoc around his house and is sent to bed without any supper, only to escape to an island of imagination and terrible monsters. This masterpiece explores themes of self-determination, autonomy, and the complexity of childhood emotions. It might as well have been an autobiography of a 10 year old me.
Thank you for chatting with us, Pete—and welcome to the staff! The next time you visit the Palace Theatre, be sure to stop by our offices and say hello to Pete. He can’t wait to meet you!
