Brianna Martinez is no stranger to The Growing Stage having appeared in last season’s World Premiere, BOOGIE and just this Fall in GOOSEBUMPS: The Musical. We recently sat down with Brianna to talk more about her new role, “Maddie” and who’s her First Lady.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
When I’m not performing, you can find me managing the Box Office at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. In my spare time– I love binge watching TV shows, cooking new recipes, and buying more candles than I need!
Tell us about your role in Maddie & Eleanor.
Maddie is an expressive and good-hearted young girl, who loves making connections (in her own way, not the way her mom wants her to!). Although she struggles with her confidence, she is able to learn the importance of self-love.
Were you a fan of Eleanor Roosevelt prior to this production?
I always knew she was a respectable First Lady, but this play has given me a lot more perspective on her impact!
What can audiences expect from seeing Maddie & Eleanor?
Audiences can expect to see a young girl having a surprisingly positive relationship with her phone and “social media.”
Do you have a favorite first lady? If so, who and why?
Michelle Obama. She was the First Lady when I was Maddie’s age. Seeing a woman like her in that position made everything feel possible for us, as young POC.
What’s it like getting to work with this team at TGS?
The team at TGS makes me want to be better every day I show up. I’m lucky to keep finding myself in their company.
Fill in the blank: Maddie & Eleanor is…
All about connection!
Don’t miss Brianna and the entire company of MADDIE & ELEANOR, February 3-18!
